Cali the Golden one does this often. Does your dog sleep on her back and then lift her legs in the air?

Makana's a real slacker. As long as you feed her regularly, a walk, & play a little - she will sleep her day away. She also likes to snuggle & hide under the blankie when it's cold.

Mourning Hami... =( Grieving for a pet: do pet's go to Heaven?

Monica Lehua This morning I got up to have my breakfast and morning banana. The dogs and Hami our mini-hamster usually are waiting eagerly for their share. This time, Hami didn't move. I read they have very short lives. 1.5-2 yrs = 80 yr old in human yrs.

    • Monica Lehua ‎"Do pets / animals go to Heaven? Do pets / animals have souls?" Answer: The Bible does not give any explicit teaching on whether pets/animals have “souls” or whether pets/animals will be in heaven. However, we can use general biblical principles to develop some clarity on the subject. The Bible states that both man (Genesis 2:7) and animals (Genesis 1:30; 6:17; 7:15, 22) have the breath of life. ~read more: http://www.gotquestions.org/pets-heaven.html

When considering whether they will be in heaven, it is similar to me of even whether our own people that we love and we were close to will be in heaven. In other words, if we are looking to have com...fort that they will be there, we are essentially looking forward to that time where we will therefore be happy and be without pain from them passing. We know that heaven will have whatever we need for that happiness and lack of pain to come about, So we can safely then assume that if it is needed that our loved ones be in heaven for that - they will be. Either way, we can certainly have the hope that heaven will bring the happiness and the freedom from pain of sorrow that we seek.

Revelation 21:4 (New King James Version)
4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”See More

    • Monica Lehua I was more attached then Bella. That's sad. Steve and Bella were attached to the first one, Snowball. Now, don't think anyone will be attached cause they are short lived. What trauma to put a kid thru. Stick to dogs. We had a toy poodle for 17yrs & a cat for 18!

    • Cindy Martinetto aww. so sorry to hear. I had several hamsters, fish, birds and have fond memories of them. That is how we learn about life, the brevity of it-that is. We can enjoy but for a little while, the idea is to not become calloused. To cherish the lives of those we love while we have them around us, two or four footed!

Dog's Life: Nala's hiding from the Vet; see her reaction 5 days after the rabies vaccine

Img00554-20100325-1511
Nala had an annual visit to the Vet (in a large pet store) in central Florida last Saturday. They gave her two vaccines, took blood, and said because of her size they would give her the other two vaccines in two weeks.  Nala has never had any problems with any vaccines. Later that day, she was acting a bit strange, my husband told her to get off Cali (golden's) bed, which is a thousand times bigger than Nala but she likes to "play own" all the doggie beds and the human beds in the house. Anyway, Nala got off Cali's bed and ran under the back of our king-size bed frame.  I didn't know about this until later when I called Nala for some reason, and asked my husband where she was. He said, "probably still under the bed, why do you think something is wrong?" I said, "No I just wanted to know where she was because she had her shots today and I want to check on her."

I went into the bedroom and saw Nala peeking at me from under the bed frame. I called her out and she seemed to be hiding from me, and went back "into" the bed area. I kept calling her and she was shaking, like most chihuahuas when they get nervous.  This was unusally as Nala is ten-years-old and has never acted this way. Sure she can be a "pill" and not answer when I call, but she doesn't shake when I do find her - she usually comes out and looks at me as if to say, "I could hear you, but you didn't say why you were calling me." Little stinker.

So, back to the story - Nala yelped when I tried to pick her up. Another strange behavior. First hiding, now yelping, I never touched her, I was about too, so she anticipated some sort of pain. The next day, Sunday, Nala didn't want to get out of bed. I carried her bed to the puppy pad, her food and water and she didn't want to come out. I was concerned that she was having some sort of side-effect from her vaccinations.  After reading a number of things on both rabies and bordetella vaccines, I was convinced she was having problems from the rabies vaccine.  I contacted a veteranarian and he said without seeing her he would guess that she's reacting to the rabies, the limping or dragging of her hind legs (a symptom of side-effects from rabies) should go away in 4-5 days, however if she had a fever or other problems to bring her in to the Vet.

Nala seemed to improve by Wed, however this morning she did the same thing - yelped before I even touched her, limped when walking and didn't want food or water.  Makana was also acting stragely last night, so I was paranoid that they both were having vaccine side-effects. I called the vet and since we are new to the area, we needed to find a regular vet to go to for these types of situations. I also needed to find a non-anesthetic dental cleaning vet and found one the other day by internet. I was glad I took them in, Nala seems to be ok, per the vet, just a sore spot where the shot was given, based on her checking Nala's hind legs, muscles, and walking. Nala was sent home with pain killers and once we save up, she will need regular anethesia teeth cleaning.  Makana on the other hand has a couple things going on with her, in addition to needing to lose weight - you can read more about Makana on other posts and see how she enjoys her new diet food.

Aloha - m&n's mom, along with cali and the rest of the gang.
